Indian politicians again failing to understand and negotiate with US

Indian politicians again failing to understand and negotiate with US

Recently India and the US clashed on the issue of business process outsourcing (BPO) with the Commerce Minister, Arun Jaitley, contending that BPO ban implied the closing of markets and the visiting US Trade Representative, Robert Zoellick, insisting that trade should mean job creation on both sides. Government of India does not understand the actual issues. India is not perceived as a poor nation in the West. Indian technocrats and businesses are making solid gains in every respect. Indian currency is artificially devalued just like the Chinese. US have a major problem. Because of artificially lowered currency exchange rates, inefficient US Corporations are trying to run away from the reality and take the IT and Business Process Reengineering jobs in India. Indian Government officials are relatively ignorant of international politics. They were jumping at the newly created artificial boom in jobs from US and Western Europe in India. They even announced early parliament elections based on “feel good effect”. Fact of the matter is – the “feel good effect” is an illusion and US will finally ask India revaluate Rupees like the Chinese and jobs will start flowing from US or the Western countries to India. In the mean time India may have to open up its Agricultural and Finance/Insurance sector to international competition. This can have a devastating effect. Open global trade is excellent provided we follow a simple rule: In every country, the citizen have the right to live happily and prosper there. India must take care of its farmers and citizens. US insurance and financial companies are unscrupulous. They are well known for their scams. They work under the strict supervision and guidelines of US Government in US. India does not have that kind of agency driven watchdog mechanism. India must not liberalize Agricultural and Financial/Insurance sector any further. At the same time India must not aid the inefficient IT sector in making money on body trading and cheap labor use due to artificially devalued exchange rates. India’s main goal should be to protect its citizens and not the Industrialists who are trying to make some quick bucks. US citizens in recent days have started avoiding Indian service and goods. That is not a good sign. In the long term it can have a devastating effect. After all, US markets are totally open compared to that of India’s. India is a close partner to US in many aspects. It should not jeopardize the recent good relations that have built momentum. Keeping quiet about outsourcing issue would have a much better effect than what is going on now. US corporations are inefficient. They cannot sell competitive products. They have no choice but to hire immigrants or outsource services from India. Indian politicians must grow up, read more and make them more sophisticated. They should play the diplomatic magic stick just like the Chinese are doing. As in the past Indian politician are performing miserably. It is not about BJP or Congress or other regional parties. In general really educated people do not go to politics easily. Indian talent shy away from politics that is based on violence, cheating and what not. India must become matured and more diplomatic while stick to its principles.
